This has been one crazy fun filled week, between graduating college and my going away party there is much to talk about. First things first lets go back a couple weeks and I'll tell you about my last month in college. As DECA Vice President the time had come to showcase my skills. My friends and I pressed our suits, packed our bags, and headed off to California. When we arrived in L.A. we gathered our belongings and headed for Anaheim. The weekend was great we heard many motivational speakers, prepared to compete in our specific categories, ate all the wonderful food we could find, and even got to have a little fun in the sun. My partner and I competed in Event Planning and did very well. Some of our other team members competed in Hotel/Lodging and Entrepreneurship, they both did awesome. One day we even got to go to Knotts Berry Farm, we rode roller coasters all day long and had an absolute blast! The last day we were there we enjoyed a celebratory team dinner and just hung out, I am gonna miss my team a lot next year.
When we returned home it was about that time to graduate. As I worked hard to finish my classes and study hard for my finals, I could hardly believe that all this hard work was coming to an end. When I decided I was going to go back to school, I made a promise to my grandpa that I was going to work to the best of my potential. I studied hard and worked daily on my homework, now I can be proud and say I kept my promise because it all payed off! I have now graduated with highest honors, a Business Degree with a Minor in Hospitality and a Marketing Degree. The feeling of being done is almost overwhelming as I put on my cap, gown, and tassels. Walking out of the tunnel to a whole arena full of happy family and friends I couldn't help but smile. I sat in my seat listening to the commencement speaker go on and on (for what seemed to be 90 minutes) then it was my time to get up. I strolled down the aisle to the stage where I then took my place in line, then over the loud speaker I heard it...my name..."Katie Devroy Highest Honors" I walked on stage, received my diploma and shook hands with my professors. I looked in the crowd to see my family they looked so proud, my dad was crying, my grandma and boyfriend were smiling big, and my mom was giving the thumbs up. All I could think was, I did it!
"We're the three best friends that anybody could have" - The Hangover. This quote always comes to mind when I think of my girlfriends Ashley and Amber. These two girls the great people they are, took it upon themselves to throw Bob and I a going away party. They planned everything in secret and I just got to show up and have a great time with my family and friends! We all met at Titletown Brewery Rooftap to hang out with good beer and great company. I couldn't be more thankful for all the great people in my life and I am going to miss every single one of them a ton. I couldn't have thought of a better way to begin this brand new adventure then with a send off with all the people I love.
What feels like the end is often the beginning.
Ciao
